I don't let the GPS choose the route. It doesn't know where we've been, and that's the entire argument, and it's a good one.

We were going to my sister's last month. The GPS wanted the interstate. I said no, it's a Saturday, the interstate is where everybody is. I said take the back roads, and the GPS said that adds twelve minutes, and I said it doesn't know that, and I was calm, and I was about to be wrong.

We took the back roads. It added twenty minutes, not twelve. But we stopped at a diner, which was good, and we saw a lake, and my daughter said we were lost, and I said we were routed, and she said that's the same thing, and then we passed the diner again.

And so I stopped explaining.

My son asked if I could get us there on time, and I said, on time for what, and he said, the lake, and I said, we saw the lake, and he said, that was a different lake.

And I said, close enough.

We got there late, and dinner was better for it, because everybody was hungry, and when everybody's hungry, nobody's arguing. I'm not going to pretend the lake wasn't a mistake. It was a good one, though.
