I have a bottle in the fridge I'm saving. I'm not going to tell you which one, or who it's for, and I want you to understand that the not-telling is where the value is.
My wife asked what I'm saving it for, and I said, a special occasion, and she said, what special occasion, and I said, I haven't decided, which is why it has to stay cold. I'm committed to it being ready. I have a position.
A buddy came over last month and I almost told him, and I didn't. He said, for me, and I said, for when, and he said, there's no for-when in beer, and I said, there is, and I have a long history of being right about for-whens, and he let it go.
The bottle is past the date it would have been best. I can see the date. I do not agree with the date. The date is a suggestion. The occasion is not.
My wife found it last week and moved it to the back, and I moved it to the front, and I didn't say why. That's how it is. I'm not going to save it for a day that isn't there, but I'm also not going to drink it, because the day will be there eventually.
Filed by Dad. Puns intended.
